JANUARY

Harriman State Park First Day Hike

Experience the natural beauty of Harriman State Park Join us for a guide “hike” – hopefully on snowshoes or skis – along the 1 mile John Muir Trail loop. Meet at the Visitor’s Center to get started at 10am. Dress warmly and have snowshoes or skis underfoot. Rental snowshoes available on site.

Harriman State Park Free Winter Access Day

All vehicle entrance and winter access fees will be waived for the whole day! Additional free activities will be available.

Harriman State Park Moose on the Loose Winter Triathlon

Our “TRADITIONAL” race involves Snowshoeing, Fat Biking and XC skiing . We will also have our “OPEN” duathlon style race, which can be any two disciplines, XC Ski, Snowshoe, XC Ski, or Fat Bike, Snowshoe, Fat Bike or Snowshoe, Fat Bike, Snowshoe or Snowshoe, XC Ski, Snowshoe, whatever way you want to combo two ways to race.

West Yellowstone Taste of the Trails

Taste of the Trails is designed to encourage skiers of all ages and abilities to try cross-country skiing in a simple and festive format. A 5 km (3.1 mile) course will take skiers and snowshoers around the Rendezvous Ski Trails. Four feed stations are staffed by volunteers and offer snacks and beverages to participating skiers. Skiers can casually stride from station to station, revel in the winter landscapes, refuel with friends and explore the trails in a relaxed, noncompetitive atmosphere.

West Yellowstone Cross Country SPAM Cup Citizen Race Series

In 1997, the SPAM Cup race series was developed by West Yellowstone locals Steve Morse, former owner of Nancy P's Bakery, and Scott Carsley, former owner of Yellowstone Alpen Guides, to give skiers of all ages and abilities the opportunity to try Nordic ski racing for a low cost and without the pressure of a SuperTour or other national race affiliation.

Ashton American Dog Derby

Two day event. The Oldest All-American Dog Sled Race. From 1917 when Tud Kent won the first American Dog Derby during a blinding blizzard to this year’s races, the running of the dogs in Ashton is an exciting event rich in history. There are 5 different races offered and a start/finish line full of activities including a celebrity race, a snowshoe race, and a weight pull in which spectators and their dogs can compete. West Yellowstone Rendezvous Race

Are you ready to put a winter’s worth of training to the test while you enjoy the beauty of the Yellowstone region? There are six different races to choose from depending on your age and ability: 2K, 5K, 10K, 25K classic, 25K and 50K. The six races are run concurrently and skiers of all ages and abilities participate every year. The Rendezvous Race is the culmination of cross country ski racing in our region and, as the name implies, it is a reunion of old timers and newcomers alike who have trained and skied on our trail system for years or who are skiing here for the first time. Run on the beautifully groomed, rolling terrain of the Rendezvous Ski Trails, there is no better way to celebrate the end of the winter season than to ski in the Yellowstone Rendezvous Race!

You don't want to miss this spectacular trail run just outside of Yellowstone National Park! The West entrance and gateway to Yellowstone National Park is surrounded by three national forests, blue-ribbon trout streams, and beautiful mountain lakes. Come run a 50K, 25K or 10K trail run with breathtaking scenery that takes place right outside the world's first National Park on the trails of Custer Gallatin National Forest. All races are on both Saturday and Sunday.

Island Park Sawtelle Fun Run

The event is located at the base of Sawtelle Mountain in the Caribou-Targhee National Forest. Lots of Patriotic water stations along the course will provide encouragement and subsistence. Indeed, a trail run with plenty of shade, streams, and beauty.

West Yellowstone Mountain Bike Biathlon

WYSEF and Altius Handcrafted Firearms invite you to West Yellowstone’s Rendezvous Ski Trails Biathlon Range for our annual Mountain Bike Biathlon. This unique competition is open to any interested participants. It provides a training opportunity for experienced Biathletes and a chance for others to experience the Olympic sport of Biathlon. Mountain Bikes and Summer Trails substitute for skis and snow but the rifles and shooting are the same.

The Island Park Festival is free to the public – come one, come all! Vendors, visitors, and community members are invited to attend the twice annual Island Park Festival. Located where Quakie Lane meets Highway 20, these weekend events draw thousands of guests.

West Yellowstone Rod Run

The annual Rod Run event draws four to six hundred street rods and classic cars from all over the United States. This event is Open to the Public and Free to attend. Come watch the classic cars parade through the center of town to our town park (Pioneer Park). Will also have music, vendors, and food.

Harriman State Park Trail 25k/50k Races

The Harriman Trail Races have been expertly curated with the discerning trail runner in mind. Every attempt has been made to provide the ultimate in artisanal trail racing for both the wise and sage runner as well as the newcomer to the trail racing scene. Careful attention has been paid to the design of the event, the course, the distances, the aid station fare, the critical placement of wildlife for your viewing enjoyment, random gift giving, and the selection of post race food and beverages.

West Yellowstone Rendezvous Trail Run

Run on the wide, hard pack course of the Rendezvous Trail System without the worry of cars or pavement. Held annually in September, the YRTR is a great autumn race and is held on Yellowstone National Park's "Fee Free" weekend. Enjoy a fun, family & dog-friendly run before taking in the sites in and around Yellowstone. Distances include 5k, 10k, Half Marathon, and Half Marathon relay.

West Yellowstone Ski Festival

For over 40 years, cross country skiers from across North America and around the world have traveled to West Yellowstone, Montana’s Yellowstone Ski Festival to begin their Nordic ski season on the Rendezvous Ski Trails. The Yellowstone Ski Festival takes place during Thanksgiving week. The event's highlights include a series of Nordic skiing clinics, competitive races, Biathlon races, clinics, and classes.

Island Park Festival of Trees

For the kids, (maybe even some adults) can visit with Santa, write a letter to Santa, decorate cookies and enjoy some hot chocolate. For the adults there will be a wine tasting. Stroll through the Christmas Trees, Check out the wreaths, gift baskets, treats. If you lie something it will be available to bid on. Day tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for kids 2-12 and Free to children under 2. 5pm-10pm is an adults only Cocktail Party with Live Music by Nate Sutton, Wine Tasting, Appetizers and Live Auction for the Christmas Trees and a No Host Bar.
